Photographer Profile.

I am a hunter. Along the way I picked up the camera to document the hunt. Hundreds of sunrises and thousands of wildlife encounters later, the camera has largely replaced the gun. As the years have passed, I spend more time thinking about the encounters than the harvest.

My goal for my photography is to capture some of those special moments nature has to offer and share those images with others.

A few thoughts on my approach and style:

  • Wild subjects, period. No captive animals will ever be featured in my work. Yes, some of the animals in National Parks, Wildlife Management Areas, and National Wildlife Refuges have learned to tolerate the presence of people, but I still consider them to be very much wild.

  • I share imperfect photos. Nature doesn’t offer reshoots. If I see something interesting in low light or that moving animal isn’t perfectly sharp, so be it. If it tells an interesting story, I’m going to share it. I might not sell an image that won’t print well, but perfection is not the standard for enjoyment.

  • Artificial Intelligence - My goal is to share the beauty of the natural world, not create it. I use Adobe Lightroom Classic to process my photos, which does have limited AI features. I strive to make my photos accurate representations with minimal alterations. For example, will I occasionally remove a distracting stick or random person from the edge of the frame? Yes. Will I move the animals within the environment to portray something different? No.

  • My preferred subjects are waterfowl, big game, and landscapes (in that order).
